Seeking Safety

Seeking Safety was originally created as a guide to those in recovery from PTSD and substance use, and covers many topics of wellness such as healthy relationships, boundary setting, asking for help, red flags, managing anger, grounding, coping with triggers, and many other healing topics. Seeking Safety can be done in individual or group therapy, and has proven effective in providing coping skills and life skills, even for those who are not in recovery for PTSD or substance use.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT is highly effective for children and young adults at improving PTSD symptoms as well as other impacts of trauma including symptoms of depressive and anxiety & cognitive and behavioral problems.  TFCBT works to improve the client's symptoms & behaviors, while also helping parents cope with personal distress about the child’s traumatic experience.  TFCBT combines relaxation, cognitive coping, affective modulation, for client and caregiver, while also teaching effective parenting skills to increase supportive interactions with the child.

Managing & Adapting Practices (MAP)

MAP has proven successful with children and adults (ages 2 to 19) who have significant emotional problems (e.g., symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, disruptive behavior or depression). MAP provides a comprehensive approach to treatment by considering the child's age, gender, ethnicity and culture.  A unique roadmap is then created for the therapist to implement services with both the child and caregiver, providing new coping skills for the client and helpful parenting skills for caregivers in an effort to support the child while reducing unwanted symptoms and behaviors such as irritability or defiance.

My Approach: Acceptance v. Change

My approach to therapy is individualized to fit each person's needs. While creating a safe, trusting, nonjudgmental environment, I also challenge you to work towards your goals and make the necessary changes in order to lead a more fulfilling life. My hope is to create a space where you feel heard, validated, and supported in order to encourage healing and growth.

I take a person-centered approach to treatment, incorporating all the attributes that make you, YOU.  These may include your culture, race, religion, sexual orientation and identity, personality, life experiences, among many others.  I then incorporate these factors into treatment interventions from the evidenced-based modalities described in Areas of Expertise section.  My specialties include building healthy relationships through boundaries and assertive communication while reducing mental health symptoms by learning to reframe unhelpful thinking, strengthen emotion regulation skills, & build self worth.

All of my services are built on the foundation of the DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) principle acceptance versus change.  Actively working to change the things within your power can mean monumental growth in the way you feel, in your relationships, and in the work you do. How might your life be transformed by this principle?
