Areas of Expertise

Evidenced Based Practices

I am certified in each of the therapeutic modalities below, all of which are evidenced based practices.  The American Psychological Association defines Evidence-based practice as, "the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture and preferences."

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

As a Certified CBT therapist, my role is to help you identify unhelpful thinking that may be contributing to your distressed mood and dysfunctional behaviors.  The Academy of CBT states, "Cognitive therapy helps people to identify their distressing thoughts and to evaluate how realistic the thoughts are. Then they learn to change their distorted thinking. When they think more realistically, they feel better. The emphasis is also consistently on solving problems and initiating behavioral change."

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

The goal of IPT is to improve the quality of your interpersonal relationships, social functioning, and to help reduce distress, sadness, etc. IPT provides strategies to resolve problems within four key areas: interpersonal effectiveness (communication, assertiveness, boundaries, etc.) including social isolation or involvement in unfulfilling relationships.  A second area of focus is unresolved grief to death, loss of a loved one/relationship, or general life changes that bring grief. IPT is effective for difficult life transitions like retirementdivorce, changes in family composition, moving, etc. Finally, IPT is recommended for dealing with interpersonal disputes that emerge from conflicting expectations between partners, family members, close friends, or coworkers.

My Approach: Acceptance v. Change

My approach to therapy is individualized to fit each person's needs. While creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment, I also challenge you to work towards your goals and make the necessary changes to lead a more fulfilling life. I take a person-centered approach to treatment, focusing on your needs and pulling from the several evidenced-based modalities I am certified in.  These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Seeking Safety, Managing & Adapting Practices, & Trauma Focused CBT. My specialties include building healthy relationships through boundaries and assertive communication, while reducing mental health symptoms by learning to reframe unhelpful thinking, strengthen emotion regulation skills, & build self worth.

All of my services are built on the foundation of the DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) principle acceptance versus change.  Actively working to make choices within your power & control can mean monumental growth in the way you feel, in your relationships, and in the work you do. How might your life be transformed by this principle?
